Ready or not....
Tomorrow is the day... the beginning of 2 weeks survival. The plan- to live as though we are dealing with an emergency situation in our home, and still function normally outside our home. As of tomorrow morning we will be drinking stored water and washing our hands with water saved in 2-liter bottles. There will be no trips to the store to purchase anything. Any gas that is needed (we may not need to fill-up in the next 2 weeks) will be purchased with cash on hand. Baths will be taken with water heated on the stove and the last 3 days of our 2 week test we will try to do without electricity (cooking in the fireplace, using candles for light, and perhaps living without the furnace).
Our goal is to find out what we lack, as far as supplies, food, ingenuity (and patience) and work to overcome those shortfalls. We hope to gain a better appreciation for the many conveniences and blessings we take for granted everyday and become more self-reliant in the process.
It will be an interesting, and educational 2 weeks and we will try to keep you posted as the coming experiences change the view we have of ourselves, our family and life in general.

This is an awesome, awesome (and extremely practical and smart idea)!!
You are very brave.
We wish you all luck (and let us know what snags you run into :)
What a great idea! My water was shut off for a week after Christmas due to a leak behind our condo. I'll tell you what, I have never been so thankful for running water in my life as I have been this month! Good luck to you, and let us all know how it goes!
This is wonderful, and I can't wait to learn what YOU learn in the process. Please share.
Do you accept CARE packages by mail during the two week time period? I just might want to send M&Ms and wet wipes. Lot's of 'em. ;-)
Seriously a cool idea. Maybe we'll try it out after you have worked out the kinks ;-)
We've been told to try this too, but haven't been brave enough to actually do it. I know we're lacking in some major areas. Please do share the results.
Dang! I'd be lucky to try 3 days. Sounds like fun, in a way. And I would love to realize what supplies I'm short on.
How did Day 1 go for you?
Wow that is really impressive and very brave. Good luck!
